The 3rd World Congress of Asian Psychiatry (WCAP) is the official congress of the Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations (AFPA) that represents psychiatry and mental health care of over 40 countries that host over 60% of global population. The 3rd WCAP takes place from July 31st to 4th August 2011 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in Melbourne, Australia.
The congress theme is 'Enhancing the Identity and Capacity of Asian Psychiatry- in the Pursuit of Excellence in Asian Psychiatry'.
The South Asian Forum International and the Australian Asian Medical Federation are hosting this congress. The Victorian Government and Commonwealth Government of Australia are the major sponsors. The congress is co-sponsored by the World Psychiatric Association, Royal College of Psychiatrists of United Kingdom, Royal Australia New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and The Canadian Psychiatric Association.
The distinguished International organising team and the international scientific committee will present an outstanding and stimulating program reflecting psychiatry from all the regions of Asia and important cutting edge contributions psychiatrists of Asian ancestry are making out of Asia and beyond. A funded pre congress training and teaching workshop for young Asian psychiatrists will take place on the 30th and 31st July 2011 by distinguished faculty co-chaired by Professor Sundram and Professor Deva. There are symposia and lectures on the major areas and sub specialities of psychiatry including the important disaster intervention psychiatry. Outstanding plenary and invited speakers from around the world including Asia have confirmed their participation in this congress.
This congress will present ground breaking lectures that blend philosophy, the practical and the spiritual, venerable Eastern wisdom and cutting edge Western science with demonstrated dynamic results. The congress will offer workshops on Eastern traditions and models of meditation, mindfulness, well-being therapies and retreats in addition to the regular domains of psychiatry. There will be workshops on writing for journals and manuscript preparation for publication. Accepted abstracts will be published as a supplement of the Asian Journal of Psychiatry. There are planned visit programs to academic psychiatry, mental health care centres and facilities in Melbourne and Sydney. Abstracts for Symposia workshops and papers are called for to this world congress.
