Doctors Desa Lilic will be among the Conference’s Invited Speakers.
The focus of Dr. Desa Lilic’s research for over a decade has been chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis (CMC). Over the years, she has collaborated and published widely on this disease. Very recently (29 June 2011), together with colleagues in Nijmegen, Holland, Dr. Lilic published her latest research in the New England Journal of Medicine identifying heterozygous mutations in STAT1 as the basis of an autosomal dominant form of CMC associated with hypothyroidism. The mutation leads to defective IL-12R and IL-23R pathway activity involved in the regulation of Th1 and Th17 responses. These results highlight a previously unappreciated role of STAT1 in regulating IL-17 responses, opening new horizons for improving future care and management of patients with fungal diseases.
Keynote speaker for the forthcoming conference is Professor Luigi Notarangelo from the Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
Professor Luigi Notarangelo is one of the founding fathers of the subspecialty with a vast knowledge and experience in many areas of PID.
