Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to come and join us in Barcelona for the 43rd Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Continence Society (ICS). This is the first time that the ICS Annual Scientific Meeting visits Spain. On behalf of the local organising committee and all ICS members in Spain, I warmly welcome all of you to take part in the most outstanding event of our Society.
Barcelona is the capital and the most populous city of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain. It is the fourth most visited city in Europe and 11th in the world, and has consistently ranked as one of the best cities in Europe in terms of quality of life. Barcelona is recognised as a global city because of its importance in finance, commerce, media, entertainment, arts and international trade. Barcelona has a dynamic and open personality so typical of Mediterranean cities and is a perfect destination to relax, stroll around and enjoy. Barcelona has a fascinating history and is the cradle of many cultures and a witness to major transformations. The Mediterranean climate of Barcelona has rare days of extreme weather. In August the temperature ranges from a maximum of 29ºC to a minimum of 21ºC.
The Scientific Committee, chaired by Montserrat Espuña-Pons, is working hard in order to provide an excellent scientific programme which will meet the high standards of the ICS. Three days of the best original research will follow two days of educational programme.
The social programme will have a distinctly Spanish feel, making the most of local Catalonian culture and customs. The Welcome Reception and Annual Dinner will give the opportunity of experiencing local tastes and meeting old friends, as well making new acquaintances.
The ICS annual meeting venue will be the International Convention Centre of Barcelona which is located close to the Olympic pier within one of the best areas in town. There are many hotels within walking distance. The Barcelona Airport is located 12 Km (20/30 minutes) from the city and is connected by efficient buses and trains.
I very much hope you will take this opportunity to visit Spain and I look forward to meeting you in Barcelona in August 2013.
