Caring for the Environment

Managing Corporate Responsibility at Kenes Group - Not just words but deeds

We, at Kenes Group, are committed to integrating responsible business practices into all of our operations, not just through words and statements but also with deeds. Responsibility to our clients, staff, environment and social issues are paramount to all of our decisions, policies and practices. It is our aim that these measures positively impact the workplace, the marketplace, the environment and the community.

It is our belief that by employing a Green Culture in the workplace, we can duplicate these efforts and the responsibilities it entails with our core business clients and while onsite during our congresses.

Together with EFNS we are delighted to outline some of the eco friendly practices are implemented in the EFNS 2010 congress:

Green Print

All the print materials of this congress have been printed on paper made of 50 - 100% paper waste or paper that is FEFC approved. The FEFC is an organization that certifies paper manufacturers which keep to sustainable forest management criteria.

Reducing Print

The book of abstracts will be published on a CD-Rom. If you wish to print any of the abstracts while at the congress, please look for the printing stations in the exhibition area where you can print your choice of abstracts.

Recycling

As part of our efforts we try to produce less waste. We will also recycle plastic, glass, cans and paper. Before leaving the congress, please don’t forget to place your badges in the recycle bin for badges.

Green Congress Center

Geneva Palexpo’s agenda puts the emphasis on the following actions:

  • The use of electric energy from 100% Swiss hydraulic resources for the daily operation of its installations
  • Use of “green energy” for exhibition
  • Production of photovoltaic solar energy on site
  • The selective sorting and recycling of over 80% of regular waste (paper, plastics, glass) or building rubble (wood, scrap iron, carpets, decoration elements)
  • The incineration of the remaining waste by a specialized company to produce electric energy
  • A sustainable purchasing practice giving preference to materials and items that are reusable, rechargeable or recyclable
  • The choice of suppliers and subcontractors committed to a sustainable development agenda
  • The use of biodegradable cleaning and maintenance products

Offset your Carbon Footprint

You can contribute to our ecological efforts by offsetting the carbon footprint of your travels to the EFNS Congress. A carbon offset represents a reduction in emissions somewhere else - like a wind farm in Texas or a reforestation project in Nicaragua - to balance out the emissions you cannot reduce. You can learn more about offseting you carbon footprint at: www.carbonfund.org

Organizing green congresses all over the world is a real challenge, as green is not only about onsite conduct but also the suppliers we are using, the source of the raw materials, the methods of production, management of waste, shipping vs. using local products and fair management of labor throughout the supply chain.

We are doing our best and there is still much to learn. Kenes Group is committed to the process.

The Congress Bags

The congress bags are both ecological friendly and support a social project by employing disadvantaged women in the townships of South Africa.

Township Patterns is a close corporation whose objective is to design, produce and market a range of eco-friendly textile products under the Township™ South African trade mark in order to directly support the sustainable development of empowered production units operating out of the townships of South Africa. Township Patterns cc is a fair trade, WFTO-accredited company.

Township Patterns works together with Township No-profit, who provides constant funding and support for disadvantaged women in the townships in order for them to set up their own independent co-operatives. Today they work with 7 co-operatives, each owned by between 8 and 10 women, each of them supporting in average 6 family members.

The bags are made from cotton, an eco friendly sustainable material, and the methods of production, management of waste and sea shipping are all done under environmental guidelines.

Bags are sponsored by:
