The British Atherosclerosis Society (BAS) is a non-profit-making organisation established in 1999 aims to promote UK atherosclerosis research. The BAS evolved from the British Atherosclerosis Discussion Group established in 1958 as an intimate forum for free-ranging and detailed discussions on atherosclerosis. The broad-based nature of the membership, which includes most of the principal investigators and clinical opinion leaders in the field of atherosclerosis and vascular disease, ensures wide-ranging and critical debate. The BAS holds two meetings each year (usually Spring in Oxford and Autumn in Cambridge) for members and non-members and includes both national and international speakers.
