
Sorrento is situated on a plain above the sea, overlooking the Bay of Naples. The view from Sorrento stretches back to the north, encompassing Vesuvius, the city of Naples, and the island of Ischia. It has a pretty old town, a harbor with ferry departures to Capri, Amalfi and Naples, and is within easy reach of the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Herculaneum and the city of Naples.
There are, hundreds of tourist shops, relaxed cafés and restaurants where you can sit at pavement tables and watch the world go by. The tourist focal point is Piazza Tasso, where tables and chairs crowd the central square which is built over a gorge. As you look out to sea the old, more attractive, part of town is on your left, and the station on your right.
Sorrento, is full of sport, musical and cinema events of international echo, theatre performances, night clubs and bars.
Here it is a party, all the year long, with thousands of local cultural traditions on a very tight schedule: from the Carnival, the famous Easter processions that cross all Peninsula and the thousands of summer and autumn feasts of typical products cheered up by the typical Sorrento "tarantella", an ancient folkloristic dance, to the rich Christmas events.
The handicraft, whose most renowned expression is the wooden tarsia, also boasts a shipbuilding production of boats contended in all markets. Finally the many liqueurs distilled from local products: lemon, tangerine, orange and nut.
