Top 10 things to do in Brighton – before, during and after the congress
CThe Royal Pavilion is Brighton's most famous and historical landmark. The Pavilion was home to the Prince Regent at the turn of the 19th century and today the building and grounds are maintained to preserve its original nature.
2. Visit the funfair on Brighton Pier
Brighton Pier, previously known as the Palace Pier, is now the only functioning pier in Brighton and Hove. At the end of the pier you will find the funfair where you can unwind after an exhilarating day at Skull Base.
3. Relax on the beach
Brighton Beach has been a favourite holiday destination since Victorian times and despite its lack of sand the beach retains its popularity to this day. As Skull Base is taking place in May, we are anticipating good weather and thus you might struggle to find a spot on the beach for the hordes of visitors who flock into Brighton from nearby London.
4. Brighton Aquarium
Brighton Aquarium (the Sea Life Centre) is considered to be the world’s oldest aquarium attraction. Here you can walk through the 'shark tunnel' and get up close and personal with all sorts of interesting marine life.
5. Wander through the lanes
The meandering lanes shopping area of Brighton is the most interesting place to shop in the city. Get lost exploring the narrow side streets and hunt down some bargains in the niche boutiques which line the streets.
6. Eat fish and chips
You can't visit Brighton without getting a big bag of fish and chips on the beach. Eat them fast before the circling seagulls swoop in!
7. Brighton Marina
The Brighton Marina is more than just a playground for the local elite to house their yachts. It's a fully functioning entertainment centre with cinema, bowling alley, casino and all sorts of places to eat and drink.
8. Go Bohemian in Kemp Town
Brighton's Kemp Town area is the most colourful and vibrant part of the city. There's a wide selection of bars and clubs in the evening and lots of little shops and cafes to explore during the day.
9. Get out of town and visit the South Downs
Jump on the open top bus from Brighton Pier and ride all the way to the Devils Dyke - gateway to the South Downs. Beautiful scenery, fresh air and lots of great walks await you, just 20 minutes from the city centre.
10. Visit the Theatre Royal Brighton
From Marlene Dietrich to Laurence Olivier, a host of thespians have trodden the boards at the Theatre Royal. Offering top West End plays, hysterical comedies and fabulous musicals, the Theatre Royal provide the best theatrical programme on the South Coast.
