Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee it is my great pleasure to invite you to join the 16th biennial meeting of the European Society for Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO), to be held from October 11-14, 2009 in Belgrade, Serbia. This meeting will be an excellent opportunity to learn about new developments in the fi eld of gynaecological oncology, to meet old colleagues and to make new friends.
The last few years have seen progressive changes in our approach to gynaecological cancer. Basic science has progressed, with new insights into the utility of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers, immunology and chemoprevention. Vaccines against common HPV types are already commercially available and all clinicians will need to understand their promise and limitations. Greater understanding of recent scientifi c advances has led to incorporating this data into strategies for patient management.
Each ESGO meeting offers attendees many opportunities for the dissemination, discussion and debate of the new medical and scientifi c information for gynaecological cancer treatment and care. Every 2 years it has attracted an even larger number of participants from all over Europe and worldwide. We hope that this meeting will be no exception. Belgrade, with its long history, will provide the ideal forum for scientifi c exchange across borders of Western and Eastern European countries.
A great deal of thought went into formulating not only a stimulating scientifi c program, but also the preparation of a most enjoyable social program, which will give participants and their partners the opportunity to experience Serbian culture and its wonderful scenery.
We very much look forward to your participation in ESGO 2009 and to welcoming you to Belgrade.
