We look forward to a fruitful and stimulating scientific congress, but we are also aiming at making your stay in Hamburg a unique, outstanding experience that will provide you with many pleasant memories!

Hamburg is rightly called Germany’s gateway to the world. For accompanying persons, who will have more time to dive into the colourful, vibrant cultural and intellectual life of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, we have therefore compiled a special social programme, full of great experiences and entertaining as well as astonishing insights into our wonderful city.

  • “Alsterdampfer”: Enjoy a tour on Hamburg’s idyllic waterways and canals with the famous White Alster Fleet (www.alstertouristik.de/e_index.php).

  • Visit the “Ballinstadt”, the “port of dreams”, from which almost a hundred years ago emigrants left for the New World (www.ballinstadt.de/Willkommen.html; click on the British flag on the top left-hand side to switch to English)

  • “Hamburgmuseum”: The museum offers an overview of the history and development of Hamburg from its beginnings around 800 AD to the present.

  • “Hamburger Kunsthalle”: Hamburg’s foremost art gallery (www.hamburger-kunsthalle.de/start/en_start.html).

  • “Maritimes Museum”: Extensive private collection of model ships, construction plans, uniforms, and maritime art. More than 40,000 items and over one million photographs (www.internationales-maritimes-museum.de).

Getting to know Hamburg

  • Riding the “Hummelbahn”: A city tour on red double-decker busses.
